We’ve been live for about a week now, so we think it’s time for a formal introduction. We’d like to welcome all of you to MomentRanks, the premier NBA Top Shot Resource for true moment, account, and market valuation.
In the last week, we’ve received thousands of sign-ups, tens of thousands of unique users, and over a million page views. We’re so excited you’ve made it here, and can’t wait for you to see the power that MomentRanks’ resources put in the hands of NBA Top Shot collectors.
Now, you’ll have the ability to view the true expected value of moments. Not just the low ask prices of moments. But instead, an expected value that accounts for the moment’s serial number and more.
Our team is busy building out several new tools to help Top Shot collectors just like you. But at the heart of it all is our dynamic moment valuation tool. Here is a brief introduction to what we’re up to at MomentRanks.
What is MomentRanks?
We created MomentRanks to be the most accurate and up-to-date NBA Top Shot account and market valuation tool. It’s that simple.
By using a machine-learning model and data on millions of previous NBA Top Shot sales, we give users the ability to see the true value of every individual moment, down to the exact serial number, updated every minute. With these tools, we hope to make Top Shot easy, accessible, and fun for collectors who use MomentRanks.
Our team is a group of Top Shot collectors who quickly realized the value of serial numbers in purchases on the Marketplace. With no tangible resource on how serial numbers affect the value of individual Top Shot moments — but with clear evidence that they affect the pricing, we set out to make our own valuation tool.
How much more is the #2 worth than the #89? How much more is the #800 worth than the #14800? Nobody seemed to have a good answer — it was all personal preference. Our talented team of engineers and data scientists with a combined 20+ years experience in the sports tech industry got the answer down to a science.
The result is MomentRanks, a Top Shot resource that gives users unique insight into the value of moments in their account, their friend’s accounts, and moments on the market by factoring in the serial numbers they own.
How does the NBA Top Shot Account Valuation tool work?
Our NBA Top Shot account valuation tool is one of a kind, and it starts with the true value of every moment. To determine that value, MomentRanks uses a number of factors:
- Sales history
- Player
- Series
- Set
- Serial number
- Tier
- Total in circulation
What are you waiting for? Go ahead and find the true value of your NBA Top Shot moments by using MomentRanks today.
How does MomentRanks determine lifetime profit and ROI?
On every account page, you’ll be be able to view individual moment value, total moment value, your account rank, lifetime profit, and ROI. The last two, we often get questions about. So let’s clear it up.
Lifetime Profit = All Marketplace sales + Total Moment Value on MomentRanks – All Marketplace Buys
ROI = Lifetime Profit / (Total Marketplace Spend – Total Marketplace Sales)
ROI is generated as a percentage. Please note that the Lifetime Profit number will not account for your pack purchases, as we do not currently have that data. Therefore, pack purchases are also not reflected in ROI.
Why use MomentRanks?
You know as well as anyone that your collection is not just a collection of the lowest asks on the market. You’re probably invested in low serial numbers, from different players, series, and sets. The value of your moment is dynamic, and not the same as other moments on the market.
So why should you use MomentRanks? It’s simple: no other NBA Top Shot account valuation tool gives collectors the true value of their collection like MomentRanks.
When our team started collecting on NBA Top Shot, we quickly learned that serial numbers were a massive factor in the marketplace. But there was no definite answer to how much serial numbers were a factor.
MomentRanks changed that.
With a team of engineers and data scientists, we developed a machine-learning model that revolutionizes NBA Top Shot account valuation. Now, you can find the true value of every moment on NBA Top Shot in real-time, whether that moment is on the market, in your account, or in your friend’s account.
Why does serial number matter on NBA Top Shot?
Every NBA Top Shot moment is given a serial number, which indicates the order which it was minted — or created — on the FLOW Blockchain. A #1 moment was minted before #2, #2 before #3, and so on, until finally the last number in the run is the final card to be minted.
You might wonder, why does serial number matter so much on NBA Top Shot? Aren’t they all the same moment? If we consider moments as the digital cousin of sports cards, it is to see why.
In the sports cards world, premium cards are graded based on centering, corners, edges, and surface. Of course, digital collectibles have none of these elements for a collector to judge their value. However, both NBA Top Shot moments and sports cards are marked by a unique number, followed by the maximum number in the run.
Because there are no other factors to differentiate one moment from another beside serial number, NBA Top Shot collectors tend to put a premium on lower-serialized cards. In the Top Shot economy, serial numbers are a value-setter for individual moments.
For example, listen to Jack Settleman, who is in the top .1% of NBA Top Shot collectors and bought #23 of the LeBron James “Kobe Tribute” dunk, talk about serial number theory.
There are many factors to nail down when determining the exact premium that collectors put on serial numbers. But you don’t need to worry about the science behind that — that’s our job at MomentRanks.
By using millions of previous data points on previous Top Shot sales, our machine-learning model determines the expected premium on a moment’s serial number, up to the minute, so you can make smarter decisions on the marketplace.
